  • Haircut

I've been moving around the country for many years, one of my biggest headache is to find a new hair styler in a new place.  I'm very particular on hair - admittedly kind of picky, so once I found a good styler, I would be loyal to him or her till I move.  From NYC Astor Place's Dominic to Bay Area Stilo's Sasha, I've gone to both of them for years......
For some reason, I'm stll looking for my perfect hair styler here in So. CA.  It's almost too expesive to go up to Bay Area every 2 months for color and cut  -(well, which I did for few times already out of desperation).....  So I started to go to Michael near Focus Plaza (See Smalln's articlue on Michael:  http://www.wretch.cc/blog/smalln5683&article_id=8698645).  My whole families go there, Mom, Dad, Smalln, Steve and even Samuel.   I seemed to be the only one complaining.... Every time after my visit, I would complain and promise myself that this will be my last visit.  My color faded after few washes, too much layer that makes me look like FOB.  I was not a happy customer.  However, I keep going back becuase convenience of the location - most importantly, I don't know where else to go.
After another horriable hair color last time, I finally made up my mind and decided to try a new salon near by this Saturday.  I was actually looking forward to it.  My hair is getting really long, and I need a fresh cut for my BIG meeting on Wednesday.  Mom was being a good sport - she went there first on Friday to try the guy out.

  • Fruit for Thought

I heard this quote from the sermon this morning - I thought it's quite enlightling, and really show how stupid a person is for hodling grudge.
"Unforgivenss is like drinking poison and waiting for someone else to die."
Something to think about during Monday Blue tomorrow  while others at work start to piss you off.

  • Furious Experience

Saturday morning, I took Mom to Bank of America to open a checking account.  Mom is like most of the 1st generation immigrants in Southern California, she always banks at the traditional Asian local branches.  To them, the convenience of ATMs, online banking and large branch network are secondary, it's all about language preference and human interaction.
So why did Mom decide to open an account with BOA?  Well, here is the story - and I was furious when I first learned about it .
Mom's employer has opened a Bank of America small business account, and has "mandated" all their staffs to open BOA accounts ASAP, because they will start using direct payroll program from BOA small business.  Monthly salaries will be distrbuted via direct depsoit into BOA account, NO more papaer paycheck will be issued - and this will be the "ONLY" way to receive your paid.

Okay, I am all for the convenience of direct depoist, I have direct deposit with my company.  However, it is a choice not a mandatory request.  I can choose to have the direct deposit to any bank of my preference, or I can request the papaer check.  Again, it's an employee's choice.  No company can force any of its employee on how he or she wants to receive the pay check. Employees work hard, get paid - No Employer has any right to direct how their employees manage their personal finance.

  • Health News

Debra forward me this article (Thank you, Debra), and I thought I should also share with all of you guys.  In this microwave age, these are simple steps we can take for our well beings.

1. No plastic containers in microwave.

2. No water bottles in freezer.

3. No plastic wrap in microwave.

4. Dioxin chemicals causes cancer, especially breast cancer.

5. Dioxins are highly poisonous to the cells of our bodies. Don't freeze your plastic bottles with water in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic.

6. Recently, Dr. Edward Fujimoto, Wellness Program Manager at Castle Hospital
, was on a TV program to explain this health hazard. He talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us.

7. He said that we should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers. This applies to foods that contain fat. He said that the combination of fat, high heat, and plastics releases dioxin into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body.

8. Instead, he recommends using glass, Corning Ware or ceramic containers for
heating food. You get the same results, only without the dioxin.
So such things as TV dinners, instant ramen and soups, etc., should be removed from the container and heated in something else.  Paper isn't bad but you don't know what is in the paper. It's just safer to use tempered
glass, Corning Ware, etc.

9. He reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food restaurants moved away
from the foam containers to paper. The dioxin problem is one of the reasons.

10. Also, he pointed out that Saran wrap is just as dangerous when placed over
foods to be cooked in the microwave. As the food is nuked, the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food.

11. Cover food with a paper towel instead.
12. I believe you should forward to your family and friends--anyone who is important in your life!

  • Happy Birthday, Samuel and Karin

Happy Birthday, Samuel! Also, Happy Birthday, Karin! (your 575 Jeans is on its way)
Little Samuel turns TWO today! I can still remember the day Samuel were born.  Karn, Robert and I were at a french bistro, Left Bank in Foster City to celebrate Karin's birthday. I still remember Karin were very glamour that day, she wore a bright pink cami top from BR, black trouser, and a bright Swarovski Crystal necklace - just like a movie star on the red carpet.  Maybe it was between appetizer and main course, we got the phone call from Mom - "Samuel has arrived". Of course, we immediately ordered champagne to celeberate our 1st time being Auntie.  Wow...The beginning of the new Lin's family generation....
Samuel has brought so much joy and happiness to our family. In the way, he helps to bring our family closer.....
Samuel's every little move can be a topic between Mom, Dad, I.
I was flipping thorugh some old pictures, and found this picture of me when I turned two.  It was with my favoriate toy "Mimi".  For those who don't know Mimi, I slept with Mimi till I turned 15, I used to bring Mimi with me everywhere till one day Mom threw it away ...... Dad said I hand-picked Mimi for my 2nd years old brithday gift. What is it anyway??? Mimi is a Koala with tail (which I used to chew on).
I looked like a very mature little 2 years-old.  I was able to sit still and sang the Happy Birthday song.
Samuel was a little lost during his pre-birthday celebration.... with his #1 expression:  MWO (mouth wide open).
Maybe he needs Mimi???
p.s. Samuel and I had the same hair style.
Samuel likes the gift I got him.
Or maybe he likes the baby Einstein gift bag better?  Jumpping around inside the gift bag.
I wonder if Samuel will still remember his 2nd years old birthday gift few decades later just as I still remember Mimi.....

  • My Twitching Upper Eyelid…

I don’t know why but lately my right upper eyelid has been twitching in the morning and now during the day.  It’s kind of funny watching my eyelid twitching in the mirror.J  There is a Chinese say “Left Eyelid Twitching means something good is about to happen; Right eyelid twitching means unlucky”.  Well, luckily I don’t believe in those myths J

I did a little “google” to find out what’s the cause of it – It’s amazing you can pretty much find anything on the web these days (such as Baby Power is a good way to kill Ants….)

Here is what the web MD said:
Eyelid twitching is usually a problem called eyelid myokymia and is usually of no great concern. The nerve that supplies the muscles which control the eyelids becomes irritable for some reason. It fires nerve impulses irratically, causing the muscle of the eyelid to twitch. It is often brought on by stress or fatigue. Usually it resolves within days to weeks without treatment

Maybe I am just too stress and lack of sleep these days (working on my blog late..).  I should really catch up with some sleep this weekend……

  • Fat Lady Can Dance Better than Me

I’ve never been big in dancing - for one simple reason -I am not good at it and want to spare myself from embarrassing myself in front of strangers.

Lately, I’ve been on the diet mission; try to lose few (or many I should say) pounds.  I’ve been heading to the gym after to work more often.  Yesterday, I decided to try out a Hip Hop class at LA fitness with my co-worker, Debra. I had no idea what to except, since I’ve never been to a Hip Hop class… really don’t see myself as a street dancer :)
There were about 15-20 people in the class last night.  It was relatively small compared to my 80 people kickboxing class. The instructor is a young Asian guy, btw,  reminds me of Dr. Ng’s brother, Kent.  The format of the class is simple, he teaches us the chirography by first breaking it down into different pieces, and the put it together at the end.  By the end of the class, we “suppose” to master the dance move – (hmmm…easier said then done).
Well, most people there were in their early 20th (looked like kids from UCI) – hey, maybe the instructor just gathered his classmates from school in order to pump up student count J  Of course, there were few other older people (myself includes) who seem to be always one step behind the rest of the class.
All I can say is the class is intimidating; most people were like pros and move well.  I was having a hard time following the step and moves…hmmm…am I really that old and lack of rhythm?  Even the fat lady in front of me got it and seemed to be so into the move!!
The most embarrassing part is during the class; the instructor consistently broke the class into group, and asked us to perform by groups in front of everyone!!!!   What?  A test?  I thought it supposed to be a fun and relaxing activity to distress from hard day of work.
Debra and I laughed our ways through the class.  Well, although the exercise benefit weren’t much there, nor it had any help toward building my self-esteem, but it definitely had some entertainment benefit.
