Happy Friday! I’m so glad the weekend it’s here. Just the thought of not coming to work the following two days; it makes the big difference for me waking up this morning. I jumped out of the bed the minutes my alarm went on instead of hitting the snooze button 5 times. I guess this shows how much “Passion” I have for my current job.
Hmmm… I wonder what Mom is going to prepare for me this weekend? Where should we go eat tomorrow? I’m already in the weekend mode.
Last Friday, Dad bought some sashimi from The Sushi, a Japanese restaurant next to our home.
Personally, I think this is the best Sashimi place in Southern California. It has been opened for 10+ years. It’s a small authentic family own restaurant. The father is the sushi chief, the mother cooks other dishes in the back, two daughters are waiteress. There are probably 5-6 tables only in the restaurant with a small sushi bar. It gets crowded easily by locals. You need to show up a little before 6pm to gaurentee the table. The owner would turn you away, if the restaurant is too crowded, or if you came in 20 minutes before their closing time. It reminds me of “soup Nazi” from Seinfield. I think the owner is very focus on Work-Life balance. I wish I can turn my boss away 20 minutes before 5pm or my workload is too much?
Luckily for us, somehow Mom and Dad became friends with the owner. It’s kind of an interesting story. Few years ago, Dad and few of his friends went golfing. He ran into the owner. He was by himself and can’t get a tee time. Dad invited him to join the group. He was very grateful. Just to show how far Dad is welling to go for a good sashimi, during the course, he also share the lunch – sticky rice ball that Mom prepared with the sushi chief. We always joke
One rice ball from Mom has helped the family the gaurentee spot in The Sushi restaurant.
We use one rice ball to traded extract good piece of sashimi for the family - good deal for us, bad deal for the sushi owner.
It’s amazing what kind of effect the rice ball has. Hey, isn't there a Japanese children’s song we used to sing called “Momo Taro Son” (the peach boy). Didn’t he also use a rice ball to gain ally to fight the monster with him?
The sashimi here is very fresh and also the price is also very reasonable. Also, don’t forget to order the udon here. The Chief’s wife made a best udon. The soup is very flavorful, but not too salty. The udon is very “Q”. If you want it for to-go, you will need to bring your own container.
I wonder what I should eat this weekend? The Sushi is not a bad idea.
